What the DigitalOcean student links currently show

The former /github-students landing path currently resolves to DigitalOcean's general homepage. A successful HTTP response at that destination does not establish that a student offer is still redeemable.

The public GitHub Student Developer Pack catalog checked for this guide does not list DigitalOcean. These observations leave the student offer unconfirmed; they do not prove that every historical credit or private account benefit has been revoked.

How to evaluate a student-credit claim

Use the provider's current offer terms and your own billing page as the evidence. An old blog post, a competitor's number or a valid GitHub student badge does not establish the amount available to a DigitalOcean account today.

• Check whether the offer accepts new users, existing users or both.
• Confirm the credited amount, expiry date and services it covers.
• Read payment-method requirements and what happens when the balance is exhausted.
• If these terms are missing, ask provider support before deploying anything that can incur charges.

Plan the cloud bill before the project

Estimate your selected compute, storage and connected-service costs using current pricing. A promotional balance, if one is actually applied, should be treated as a temporary budget rather than proof of permanently free hosting.

For a class demo, keep the first deployment small and review your billing dashboard after setup. Before ending the project, review which resources remain active and follow the provider's instructions for removing anything you no longer need.

Student alternatives worth checking
